Authorities Investigating Drowning of Student During School Trip in Israel


Chorev High School student Evyatar Avivi z”l suffered a fatal drowning in a pool during a school trip to the Ganei Choga Park on Wednesday R”L. The annual school trip was for students of the 7th and 8th grades. Authorities are investigating, reporting the pool was not deep water. Beit Shean police are investigating, reporting the boy did not know how to swim.

Chorev Principal Rav Yitzchak Dror told Kol Chai Radio “we must now concern ourselves with chizuk of the family and students and daven to Hashem that we should all be consoled”.

Officials report that classmates noticed the boy lying in the water and summoned a life guard who got his lifeless body out of the water, then beginning CPR. After advanced life support resuscitation was implemented, he was transported to Afula’s Ha’emek Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Paramedic Viseme Zoabi told reporters that based on the signs he saw, the child was under water “for at least 20 minutes” before he was noticed.

Police are questioning how the child drowned in water that was a 1.3 meters (about 4 feet) and how he was not noticed for a prolonged period of time.

The levaya is set to begin in Har Menuchot at 5:00pm Thursday afternoon.
