In a largely symbolic ruling, the Jerusalem District Court has ordered Hamas to pay close to 1 billion shekels in compensation to hundreds of victims of the October 7 massacre — including the families of those murdered and people injured in the attack.

The judgment was issued by default, after Hamas failed to submit a defense. The lawsuits were filed under Israel’s Terror Victims Compensation Law, which allows punitive damages in terror-related civil claims.
