Florida Rep. Vern Buchanan Announces Retirement After 18 Years in Congress

Rep. Vern Buchanan, a Republican who has represented Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2007, announced he will retire at the end of the current Congress, leaving office at age 74.

* Buchanan said he plans to return to private life after 18 years in Congress, calling it an honor to serve. He chairs the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health.

* His retirement adds to a growing list of House members not seeking reelection in 2026, as Republicans hold a narrow majority.
