The U.S. carried out strikes on more than 50 military targets on Iran’s Kharg Island early Tuesday, according to U.S. officials, in a major escalation ahead of President Trump’s deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
According to reports, the strikes targeted air defense systems and military bunkers, not oil infrastructure, despite the island serving as Iran’s main oil export hub, as the U.S. signals broader attacks on Iran’s energy sector if the strait remains closed.
