Israel Supreme Court Keeps Ben-Gvir In Post With Interim Restrictions And Deadline For Agreement Talks

Israel’s Supreme Court ruled that National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir will remain in his post for now, while ordering interim restrictions on his conduct.

The court gave Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir, and Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara until May 3 to update whether they have reached agreed terms.

Judges ordered that senior and sensitive police appointments at the rank of superintendent and above be made only in accordance with the police commissioner’s recommendation and with seven days’ advance notice to the attorney general.

The court also ordered Ben-Gvir to refrain from making public statements regarding the use of police force against civilians, including in ongoing investigations.
