Volkswagen and Israeli defense company Rafael are reportedly nearing a deal to jointly produce parts of the Iron Dome air defense system in Germany.
• The planned partnership would shift production at Volkswagen’s Osnabrueck plant from civilian vehicles to military trucks tied to the missile defense system.
• According to the report, missiles and core air defense components would still be produced in Israel before being installed onto the vehicles in Germany.
• The cooperation could also include work connected to Rafael’s laser-based Iron Beam system as Germany continues expanding its European Sky Shield air defense initiative.
