Jerome Powell Steps Down as Fed Chair, Kevin Warsh Set to Take Over

Jerome Powell has concluded his tenure as chairman of the Federal Reserve and will temporarily serve as chair pro tempore until Kevin Warsh is formally sworn in as the central bank’s next chair.

Warsh has already secured Senate confirmation, though the swearing-in process remains pending. Powell is not departing the Federal Reserve entirely and will remain on the institution’s governing board, with his separate term as a Federal Reserve governor continuing through January 2028.
