Jan. 6 Officers Sue to Block Trump DOJ Fund Over Potential Riot Payouts

Two law enforcement officers who were injured during the January 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riot filed a lawsuit seeking to block the Trump administration’s new $1.7 billion DOJ “anti-weaponization” fund.

Retired U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police officer Daniel Hodges argue the fund is unlawful and are asking a federal judge to halt Treasury transfers tied to its implementation. The officers argue the fund could result in payments to individuals involved in the January 6 Capitol riot and say it sends a troubling message by potentially rewarding those who took part.
