Iran and Oman said any future arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz must respect the sovereign rights of the two coastal states, adding that they plan to charge fees for ships transiting the waterway.

Following talks in Muscat, the two sides agreed to form a joint working group to develop a future navigation system for the Strait, including services provided and related costs, while reaffirming their commitment to safe passage under international law.
