Brooklyn Coffee Shop Investigated After Banning Rep. Dan Goldman Over Support for Israel

A coffee shop in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn, just minutes from Boro Park, is facing a federal civil rights investigation after publicly banning Congressman Dan Goldman over his support for Israel. Poetica Coffee refunded Goldman’s purchase after he stopped in with his daughter and later posted online that it does not serve what it called “genocide enablers,” saying he was no longer welcome. The move sparked widespread criticism from Jewish leaders and elected officials, and the U.S. Department of Justice has since opened a civil rights probe to determine whether anti-discrimination laws were violated. The controversy has drawn additional attention because Poetica publicly states that all guests are treated with “unconditional dignity.”
