Houthi Flights Into Jordan Near Eilat Raise Security Concerns

Israeli security officials are closely monitoring Houthi-linked flights landing in Jordan amid growing concerns about potential terror threats near Eilat and along the Jordanian border, Army Radio reported.

Jordan is the only country in the region that permits direct flights from Sana’a, the Houthi-controlled capital of Yemen. The primary destination for Yemenia Airways, the Houthi-operated airline that runs a limited number of flights, is Jordan’s Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.

Houthi passengers are also permitted to fly directly to Jordan’s King Hussein International Airport near Aqaba, just across the border from Eilat and Israel’s Ramon Airport.

Israeli security officials are tracking all Houthi flight arrivals and activity at the airports.

The Houthis’ ability to reach areas close to Eilat and the Israeli-Jordanian border is viewed by Israeli security officials as a significant concern. This accessibility is one of the factors behind a recent warning by Shin Bet chief Dovid Zini regarding the possibility of “the next October 7” in the city, chalilah.

There were also reports on Monday of a maritime infiltration into the Gulf of Eilat from Jordan earlier this month.

At the same time, security officials stress that the concern is based on an assessment of potential threats rather than specific intelligence. As the Shin Bet has emphasized, there is currently no concrete intelligence indicating plans for an attack.

Since the October 7 massacre in 2023, Israeli security officials have warned multiple times about the possibility of a Houthi infiltration into Israel.
