For the second year in a row, Sukkos in Yerushalayim will be different. Noticeably lacking will be the many American tourists who typically throng the streets. A community that depends so heavily on visitors has lost a major source of assistance, at least for the foreseeable future.
Ten years ago, Kupas Zichron Moshe was established by Rav Aharon Nimerovsky to assist needy families in the Zichron Moshe neighborhood of Yerushalayim with their Shabbos and Yom Tov expenses. The kupah operates under the auspices of Rav Gamliel Rabinovich, Rav Avraham Ehrlanger, Rav Moshe Elyashiv and Rav Yitzchak Soloveitchik.
