In 1967, in the shadow of Soviet Riga, a Yid was given something almost unimaginable — permission to leave.

Among the very few Jews allowed to emigrate, my grandfather, Reb Shneur Zalman ben Reb Yehuda Idel ז״ל, together with his wife, Yenta bas Reb Meir ע״ה, faced an impossible reality:

They could only take so much with them.

They left behind their home.
They left behind their possessions.
They even left behind the atzei chaim.

But they held on to what mattered most:

The klaf of a Sefer Torah.

Just the klaf — the pure, holy words of Hashem’s Torah — carried with mesirus nefesh, with courage, and with unwavering emunah.

Now, decades later, that very same klaf is coming back to life.

My aunt is restoring the Sefer Torah l’kavod her parents’ memory — bringing it back to full beauty and kashrus — so that it can once again be read, danced with, and cherished.

And now, it is coming home.

To Khal Bnai Torah.
To a new shul.
To a new generation.

בשנת 1967, בצילה של ריגה הסובייטית, יהודי אחד קיבל דבר שכמעט לא ניתן לדמיין — רשות לצאת.

מבין היהודים המעטים שהורשו להגר, סבי, ר׳ שניאור זלמן בן ר׳ יהודה אידל ז״ל, יחד עם אשתו יענטא בת ר׳ מאיר ע״ה, עמדו בפני מציאות בלתי אפשרית:

הם יכלו לקחת איתם רק מעט מאוד.

הם השאירו מאחור את ביתם.

הם השאירו מאחור את רכושם.

ואפילו את עצי החיים של ספר התורה השאירו מאחור.

אבל הם אחזו במה שהיה הכי חשוב:

הקלף של ספר התורה.

רק הקלף — המילים הקדושות והטהורות של תורת ה׳ — שנשאו איתם במסירות נפש, באומץ ובאמונה שלמה.

וכעת, עשרות שנים לאחר מכן, אותו קלף ממש חוזר לחיים.

דודתי משקמת את ספר התורה לכבוד זכר הוריה — מחזירה אותו ליופיו ולכשרותו — כדי שיוכל שוב להיקרא, לרקוד איתו, ולהיות מקור של קדושה ושמחה.

ועכשיו — הוא חוזר הביתה.

לבית כנסת חדש.
