WATCH: Kurtz: Media Mesmerized By GOP Defections

  1. The media is not “mesmerized”. The level of non-support for the Republican nominee from his party is as high as I can remember. Republican voters are going to set a record for holding their noses on election day, whether they vote for their party’s nominee or some other candidate, e.g., the Democratic one. (As a life-long Democrat and liberal, I will be holding my nose, and crossing my fingers, when I vote for Hillary.)

  2. Why is it that all of your news videos seem to be from Fox News rather than some of the more reputable news outlets?

  3. 1. All the media are furious with Trump. While this is to be expected of the “political correct” left-wing media, Trump has all made enemies of the conservative meda with his isolationism, protectionism, nativism, support for corporate welfare and eminent domain and his general lack of civility and conservative demeanor. The fact that the election is close (some polls say less then ten percentage points separate the candidates) suggests a lot of people are ignoring the media and that Trump’s base distrusts the media which in turn will make the polls increasingly unreliable.

    2. Any Republican who supports Clinton will probably not be welcomed back into the Republican party. The same probably won’t hold true if they support the Libertarians.

    3. If the Libertarians get a bit more support, they will become a serious factor since Johnson is clearly the unanimous “second choice” of those supporting either Clinton or Trump.

  4. ” the election is close (some polls say less then ten percentage points separate the candidates”

The RealClearPolitics has Clinton over Trump by 7.7%. How close is that? Bush 41 defeated Dukakis by 7.8% and that was considered a landslide. (Bush carried 40 states and got 426 electoral votes. Ten of those states have not voted for a Republican since.)

“Any Republican who supports Clinton will probably not be welcomed back into the Republican party. ”

In 1972, Democratic leaders realized that George McGovern was going to lose badly and immediately after the convention set up Democrats for Nixon. As a result, Democrats suffered minimal losses in the House of Representatives elections that fall and actually gained seats in the Senate. And while a few Democrats for Nixon leaders became Republicans, most were welcomed back after the catastrophe. However, this year, Republican leaders are trying to stick with Trump even though he doesn’t really represent any conservative values as Akuperma points out in # — unless open appeals to racism and nativism are conservative values.
