Chacham Ovadia: It’s a Mitzvah to Replace Rav Amnon Yitzchak

Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef Shlita received a sheilah from Rabbi Yigal Cohen, Rosh Kollel Yabia Omer in Bnei Brak.

The rav explains to Rav Ovadia that Rav Amnon Yitzchak gives a weekly shiur in his beis medrash and in light of recent events, Rav Amnon’s decision to join the election race, there have been inquiries to determine if it is fitting to permit Rav Amnon to continue with the shiur.

Rav Ovadia is quoted as saying that “it is a mitzvah to replace Rav Amnon by one who is a Yiras Shomayim”. The rav used the loshon הקדיח תבשילו, Rav Amnon acted inappropriately.

  1. #1 – Git Meshige: It does constitute Loshon Harah! It also promotes devisivness of our People. I can’t imagine why the moderators refused to post my previous comment on this article!?!?

  2. I am not a sefardi, and I have never met or seen R’ Ovadia Yosef, but I am 1000% certain that R’ Yosef knows more about hilchos loshon horah than you do. Have some respect for gedolim…..

  3. There is no way he said “by one who is a Yiras Shomayim”.
If this actually took place, I’m sure he said “Y’ray Shomayim”.

  4. it is imposwsible that Rav Ovadia said” to replace Rav Amnon by one who is a “Yiras Shomayim” because that is totally wrong dikduk. Nobody is a “yiras” shamayim! In fact, Rav Amnon IS a YAREI SHOMAYIM!

  5. It is Lashon Hara, Motzi Shem Raa and Rechilus in its purest form. It appears that YWN does not have a Rabbinic advisory board. It would be more degnified if the word “Yeshiva” was removed from the name.

you may counter by sayinעg ” then don’t visit this site!”
it does have positive or relevant info. unfortunately אור
    וחושך משמשים ביחד!

  6. Its not lashon haroah since the purpose of the news story is to demonstrate the poor judgement of one Rav criticizing another Rav with whom he has political disagreement. Rav Yosef is clearly not a big fan of Rav Yitachak who has been a long-time supporter of progressive policies in the Knesset.

  7. Although I am not one to start screaming, “LASHON HARAH!”, I do question why this is necessary to make publicly known. Did Rav Ovadiya, shlita asked to announce this? Did Rav Cohen ask him if he could inform the papers? Did YWN get this info from Rav Cohen direct? Even if so, has it been verified that Rav Ovadiya, shlita did indeed say that Rav Amnon is not a Yireh Shamiyim or was that interpretation?

Something does not sound right to me and this is the first time that I can remember coming out this way on an article that YWN wrote.

  8. What babies some of you are! “This Rav knows more about Halachos than you do!”. “So and So is smarter, a bigger talmud chacham, more attractive, richer, etc…. than you”. What a crazy competition. A true gadol/father would relish to see “competition” and see his students/children become greater than himself.
