An explosion has shattered the windows of a Starbucks coffee shop in New York City, but no injuries are being reported. The NYPD bomb squad is on the scene.
The NYPD is�trying to determine what caused the blast early Monday morning at the intersection of 92nd Street and Third Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.�The explosion occurred at around 3:30 a.m.
Police investigators say no one was inside the shop at the time of the explosion.
There are reports that an explosive device was left on a bench outside the store. The explosion left a gaping hole in the bench. Other reports state that the explosive device detonated inside the Starbucks.
Officials tell CBS 2HD it wasn’t a bomb that went off, but an improvised explosive device.
An apartment building above Starbucks was evacuated.�At least 10 people were forced out of their homes.
Several lanes of Third Avenue near 92nd Street are closed due to a massive police investigation.�Expect bus diversions in the area of the explosion.�The M 98, M 101, M 102 and M 103 buses are re-routed.
NYC has experienced other predawn explosions in recent years at the British and Mexican consulates and at a military recruiting station in Times Square.
