VIDEO: MK Uri Ariel: Women of the Wall Will Lead to a Civil War

kosel[VIDEO IN EXTENDED ARTICLE]

On Tuesday morning Rosh Chodesh Nissan 5773 Women of the Wall were at the Kosel as they are every Rosh Chodesh, and this time, supported by female MKs. Among the MKs showing solidarity with the women’s demands for equality at the Kosel were Stav Shafir (Labor), Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) and Michal Rozin (Meretz).

MK (Bayit Yehudi) Uri Ariel, who will likely be the next housing minister, called their actions “provocative”. He sent a letter to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Public Security Minister Yitzchak Aharonovich and Police Chief Yochanan Daninu to order law enforcement forces to act sternly towards enforcing the long-standing religious status quo at the Kosel, decrying their blatant disregard for the kedusha of the site.

Ariel adds that about a decade ago these women turned to the High Court of Justice and an expanded panel of justices heard their case and clearly ruled they may conduct their tefilla service at Robinson’s Arch, not the Kosel, yet they clearly feel the need to ignore the ruling of the nation’s highest court. He warns their continued actions at the Kosel may chas v’sholom lead to a civil war.

MK Dr. Aliza Lavie (Yesh Atid) also criticized the group, questioning how “my colleagues”, MKs who are supposed to lead by example feel they can wear taleisim and daven at the Kosel in clear defiance of the High Court’s ruling. Dr. Lavie adds that she personally is a supporter of their effort and works to assist them, but this must be done in the framework of the law.

  1. The MK’s from Meretz do not keep Shabbat, never Daven, and do not believe in G-d but for the reform movement’s hatred toward frum yidden they will come to the Kotel and put on Talis and Tefilin. Is that a kiddush haShem?

  2. They’re just a bunch of misguided feminists. They want to daven in talis and tefillin, but do they keep the three mitzvos specifically given to women properly? Until they can fulfill those three mitzvos k’das v’kdin they shouldn’t be trying to take on others.

  3. hmmmm. If the chareidi parties were offered a choice to join the government with either 1) no draft for yeshiva boys but Women of the Wall get to daven where and how they like, or 2) control of the Kosel remains in Chareidi hands, this time with full power to prevent Women of the Wall from davening there, but Yeshiva boys will have to join Nahal Chareidi for a year and a half of service.
    Which one would they pick?
