VIDEO: Greenfield Demands Answers From Bloomberg: Ocean Parkway Bike-Lanes Plowed & Streets Aren’t?!

The following video was taken on the corner of Ocean Parkway and Parkville Avenue, of NYC Councilman David Greenfield, as he describes the chaotic scene in the streets. Most incredible is the fact that the bike lanes on Ocean Parkway have been cleared, yet 90% of the streets in Councilman Greenfield’s district remains covered in snow.

The scene in this video is one of chaos, as an oil truck struggles to free itself in the snow to make a delivery, and an FDNY Ambulance tries to maneuver through heavy traffic since Ocean Parkway became a parking lot – with three lanes of the street now filled with parked cars.

  1. Sorry guys, we should stay out of politics especially criticism of any kind (we should use it only if its life dependent) even if it means staying another day at home, we are here for one reason to show the world that we are Gods kids & we are different.

  2. i wonder if bloomberg is watching or has seen all the news and comments on yeshiva world and facebook cause he is doing nothing about it, mybe we should all go down to city hall and demonstrate or at least yell at him to do something, this is ridiculous. i have 2 autistic children and because of this problem i am stuck in my house , cannot go anywhere and i dont think the busses are gonna come down my ave (ave c) to take them to school so they will be stuck in the house for the 5th day

  3. Haha!! He is good!! Straight and to the point! Just don’t think it will have any impact on anyone in a place of power to doing anything…

  4. I heard that a plow decided to actually come down a street in the 30s, and hit a parked car, so has been sitting there ever since…. must be why no other street in Brooklyn are plowed

  5. The bike lane on the Ocean Parkway mall is maintained and plowed by the Parks Dept. They can’t intrude onto the Dept of Sanitation turf.

Parks did a fairly good job, unlike Sanitation. Thanks to 4 wheel drive I saw a lot of Flatbush and Boro Park today while driving neighbors to medical appointment and work. I’d guess that less than 5% of the streets are at an acceptable level. Boro Park is a disaster beyond belief, with few of the streets even touched by plows.

What I found even worse than the Dept of Sanitation snow fighting effort is the fact the people without 4 wheel drive are trying to drive on unplowed streets, getting stuck and preventing emergency vehicles from responding. There is no excuse to move your car if there is any doubt of it’s ability in the snow. You are endangering fellow Yiddin.

There is no way any emergency vehicle could have traveled through 14th Ave or any of the streets from 55th to 44th street this afternoon between 2:30 and 3:30 today.

  6. MAYBE DAVID GREENFIELD CAN COME TO LAKEWOOD AND GIVE OUR MAYOR, STEVEN LANGERT A PIECE OF HIS MIND. I SAW AN OIL DELIVERY TRUCK STUCK IN A SNOWBANK ON PARK AVE IN LAKEWOOD AND THE FIRST THING THAT CAME TO MY MIND WAS THE VIDEO ON OCEAN PKWY. DAVID YOU CAN BE MY GUEST FOR DINNER WHEN YOU COME JUST COME BEFORE THE SNOW MELTS.

  7. As a city councilman, it’s his job to monitor the mayor. Let him pass laws that fix the problem, and stop blaming the mayor. The system is broken.
As for a parking lot, there is no excuse why anyone should park their car on Ocean Parkway. People should leave their cars parked. People driving around and getting stuck are creating many of the problems. I say every illegally parked car should be towed!!!

  8. perhaps the only good think that mayor bike bloomberg did was to have thos lanes plowed. It allows people to walk without going in the street. I used it to walk from BP to flatbush. The lanes were NOT cleared enough for bikes, it is clear only enough to walk on. Additionally, the peestrian mall is under the jurisidction of teh parks dept. not snaitation. THe srvice riads were not plowed- that is under the jurisidiction of santitation. They failed us.

David Greenfield is an excellent councilman I don’t live in his ditrict- unfortunately). However on this one issue he is wrong.
I bet Mayor Bike will put a bike lane down 13th avenue as payback…..

  9. I was so excited when I heard on Motzei Shabbos that it was going to snow. I love the snow. After these past few days I don’t think I’ll be all that enthusiastic next time they predict a snow storm 🙁

  10. I want to add kol hakovoid to the ppl in bp! My sister’s van got stuck today on 46 near 14 ave somewere in that area! She had her 3 year old son in the car and her baby waiting for her at home! At the sight of her stuck vehicle a man yelled out “a women is stuck let’s help her get out” within minutes ten men were behind the van pushing it and yelling directions at her! My sister said she didn’t get a chance to say thank u to the man who yelled for help so if u read this then the thank u is for u! My sister isn’t from bp so she didn’t knw the streets were so bad! She really appreciated all the help she got today! Thank u to all the wonderful ppl of boro park that are looking out and helping others in this trying time!

  11. TO #2 I don”t think you can tell you Landlord. electric company and phone company that. YOU are so, can’t use the words I have for you here…..

  12. To number 2.
Please tell this to the families of 5 people that hatzoloh say that they passed away only because hatzoloh couldn’t get there on time to save them. The rest is history.

  13. It’s worth pointing out that the bike lane there is also a sidewalk. Would David Greenfield prefer that people walk in the streets and get themselves killed?

As someone wrote above: “The bike lane on the Ocean Parkway mall is maintained and plowed by the Parks Dept. They can’t intrude onto the Dept of Sanitation turf.” If this is true it’s surprising as David Greenfield doesn’t look limber enough to get his own foot into his mouth.
