Kiryas Joel Village Mayor Abraham Wieder announced support for the Grand Hudson Resort and Casino project in New Windsor because of �the unprecedented benefits the project will bring to Northern Orange County and the entire state.� He said on Tuesday the facility would revitalize Stewart Airport and create thousands of jobs.

�Orange County�s overall economy is in dire need of an economic shot in the arm, its northern tier all the more so,� Wieder said.

He said of all of the proposed casinos in Orange County, this one �stands out as the only project whose water and infrastructure is fully equipped to handle casino traffic without disrupting local roads.�

He said neighboring communities �desperately need the jobs� the casino would create.

While Kiryas Joel Government Affairs Director Ari Felberman acknowledged the Hasidic community does not support gambling, �we don’t impose our beliefs on others.� New Windsor is the Orange County site furthest from KJ, he noted.
