Second Jerusalem Forest Fire, Compels Evacuation Of Residents from Sorotzkin Street Homes [VIDEOS & PHOTOS]

Not too long after declaring the Jerusalem Forest fire under control, firefighters directed their attention to a fire near Sorotzkin Street and Panim Meiros Streets which has led to the evacuation from some apartments.

At least eleven fire apparatus with assistance from fire planes are working the fire.

The fire is spreading towards the Ramot Forest and planes are working to prevent this from getting out of control.

UPDATE: (5:48PM IL) Heavy smoke conditions are concerning officials at the N’vei Simcha Senior Citizens Home. Mayor Nir Barkat and the MDA Commander on scene, Deputy Chief Avi Chovav, said MDA has transported two persons, one was taken to Shaare Zedek Hospital in light condition.

UPDATE: (5:55PM IL) The fire department HAS declared the blaze ‘under control’. However, the heavy smoke condition continues and it does not appear that residents will be permitted to return immediately. The residents of the N’vei Simcha Senior Citizens Home remain in a community center and will not be transported back until conditions improve. Baruch Hashem there are no additional reports of injuries.

  1. I know this block exceedingly well, and this is most sobering & disturbing. Yeshivos Trah Ohr & Shaarei Chaim are also on this block. I sincerely hope that they are OK.
