Border Police Have Rachmanus On Arab Mom And Her Kids At Kalandia Crossing

“Thank you very much, I knew that here we would be helped and feel safe,” said a resident of the territories who arrived with her children to the Kalandia Checkpoint on the northern Jerusalem border without warm clothing and hungry.

Policemen at the Kalandia Crossing noticed a woman who arrived with her three children who wanted to pass through the passage to Jerusalem. The police noticed that they were not wearing warm clothes and were wearing slippers and sandals and not appropriately dressed for the cool nighttime air. The police approached the mother and asked if she would like to sit down and drink before continuing on her way.

The mother agreed to the policemen who brought them to their offices, where they were given food, drink and warm clothing. One of the policemen saw the children walking in shabby shoes, collected a sum of money from his colleagues and bought them shoes from one of the stands near the crossing.

The mother, who was moved by the police act, told them in tears that her husband was hurting her and their children. In addition to helping the mother and children, the police officers accompanied her to the police at the crossing where they updated them on her situation.

Just before they left, the police gave the children bags of sweets and drinks.

The mother thanked the policemen and told them that this was one of the few moments in which she felt secure and saw a smile on her children’s face.

The Border Police officers stationed at the Kalandia Crossing noted that “in addition to our duty to maintain security and public order, we see a great duty to help even a small family whose distress we have identified.”
