MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Yaakov Litzman announced the cabinet decision to pass the Giyur Bill “Is a slap in the face to the concept of a Jewish state”. Litzman directed his anger primarily at the dati leumi Bayit Yehudi party, which he blames for the alarming deteriorating in the religious status of the nation by permitting the passage of laws that are contrary to the opinion of Gedolei Yisrael Shlita.
MK (Yahadut Hatorah) Uri Maklev calls the current government “one that is bad for the Jewish People”.
The only minister not to vote for the bill was Housing Minister Uri Ariel, who told Kol Chai Radio that the version passed is the best of the options that were available. The head of the Zomet Institute Rabbi Yisrael Rosen feels the chareidi opposition to the bill is not based in halacha, insisting the passage of the bill does not challenge halacha in any way.
