A gag order was lifted on Thursday 5 Kislev regarding the arrest of over 30 terrorists who were trained abroad to carry out major attacks in Israel. According to the report, they trained in a Hamas terror base in Turkey headed by Salah Aruri and they were then smuggled into PA (Palestinian Authority) areas. They were to carry out a number of ‘quality’ attacks including abducting Israeli citizens and infiltrations into yishuvim.
The ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) and the IDF in September 2014 uncovered a terrorist infrastructure operating throughout Yehuda and Shomron. This cell was working to enlist terrorists into an elite military wing that was to carry out a number of major attacks. As the arrests and interrogation of suspects progressed, over 30 suspects were arrested, most in Yehuda and Shomron and some in Kuwait and Jordan.
During ISA interrogation suspects revealed they planned different attacks at different venues, including yishuvim in Yehuda and Shomron and military venues in those same areas. They also planned car bomb attacks and an attack at Jerusalem’s Teddy Stadium and the Jerusalem light rail.
Weapons and ammunition were confiscated during the operation too, with officials adding recruiters turned to students who showed support for the Islamic Brotherhood or Hamas as potential candidates for terror training. In addition to the training abroad, Hamas carried out some of the training in Gaza, Jordan, and Syria. The inductees were then taught explosives in Gaza, then transferred to areas of Yehuda and Shomron.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu commented “I would like to commend the ISA and the IDF for foiling very dangerous terrorist actions that could have claimed many victims in our country. This action was publicized but there are very many actions that remain secret, counter-terrorist actions against Hamas, which challenges the existence of the Jewish nation-state and, in effect, challenges the existence of Jews in general. We are operating day and night in order to maintain the security of Israel’s citizens; the people who do this are deserving of all praise and support”.
