VIDEO: Statement From NYPD On Stabbing Attack At 770 Eastern Parkway

On Tuesday, December 09, 2014 at 1:41AM, an NYPD officer assigned to a command post located at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue was informed by a civilian that a male, armed with a knife, had stabbed another male inside of 770 Eastern Parkway, within the confines of the 71 Precinct.

The officer responded and encountered the armed suspect, a 49-year-old male, inside of the location and ordered him to drop the knife numerous. Additional officers responded, and gave verbal commands for the male to drop the knife. The suspect placed the knife on a nearby table and quickly picked it up again, and lunged at one of the responding officers, who then discharged his firearm one time, striking the male in the torso. No other officers discharged their firearms.

The suspect was apprehended without further incident, and transported via EMS to Kings County Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The victim, a 22-year-old male who was stabbed in the left temple, was transported via EMS to Kings County Hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.

The officer who discharged his firearm, along with two other officers, were removed to Methodist Hospital for treatment of tinnitus.

A nine inch knife, with a four-and-half inch blade, was recovered at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
