As the split in the chareidi Sephardi tzibur widens, Jerusalem Chief Sephardi Rabbi HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Amar Shlita is working behind the scenes to have the sides reach an agreement. The chasm that has resulted from the recent chain of events involving former Shas MK Eli Yishai and party leader Aryeh Deri continues to increase and the accusations and cross-accusations resonate throughout that community, infiltrating the Ashkenazi chareidi tzibur as well.

Rav Amar on Tuesday 8 Teves arrived at the home of the head of the Shas Moetzas Gedolei Yisrael HaGaon HaRav Shalom Cohen Shlita. Rav Amar arrived on HaYehudim Street in the Old City in the hope of speaking to Rav Cohen, hoping that something remains to be done to reunite the parties involved.

Rav Amar presented a number of ideas as how they may bring Eli Yishai back to Shas, but it was clear that not all present were seeking Yishai’s return at this time. Ladaat reports that Rav Amar did ask to add HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita to the Shas Torah Council. Rav Mazuz is the spiritual force behind Yishai’s new Ha’Am Itanu party.
