Rockland County Legislator Aron Wieder (District 13) presented members of the local Chaverim of Rockland a volunteer emergency services organization and a Spring Valley police officer with “Distinguished Service Awards” in recognition of their combined actions to rescue two citizens from a burning residence, and ensure their safety in the aftermath of the rescue. The recognition ceremony was held Tuesday evening Jan. 20 prior to the meeting of the county legislature.
On November 23, 2014 on a cold Sunday afternoon, Spring Valley police officer Marc Miller and four Chaverim of Rockland volunteers Yossi Margaretten, Joseph (Yosef Hersh) Gross, Yoel Selka & Shlomie Spira rescued an elderly Spring Valley woman and her son and dog from a burning house.
