Two young girls were arrested Tuesday afternoon for stealing a pocketbook in a Williamsburg store.
Sources tell YWN that around 4:00PM, two suspects dressed as Jewish girls, and entered the FNW Appliance Store on Wallabout Street. As can be seen in the video below, one of the girls asks a shopper a question, while the second girl quickly grabs a pocketbook that was hanging on the back of a baby carriage. An eyewitness quickly called Williamsburg Shomrim (WSPU) and the NYPD who responded instantly.
Both girls, aged 14 and 16, were apprehended a few minutes later on Lee Ave and Middletown Street. Shomrim members retrieved footage of the girl stealing the pocketbook from security cameras located inside the store.
Shomrim reminds everyone to never leave their pocketbooks unattended – even for a second.

So were or were they not Jewish?
The voices heard in the background of video are debating whether they are “yiddishe maidlach” or “spanish”. I heard the girls were named Fruma Sanchez and Chaya Suri Rodriguez, I guess both were right.
No.
I wonder if there were children left unattended in that stroller?? How easily they could have been snatched as well!!
Looked at the 1st and 2nd picture. There’s no “denial” (tartei b’mashma).
So, in the third photo, who’s the guy in the dark hoodie?
So we got framed.
It seems another issue is ignored. The suspects were “dressed like Jews”. This assisted them in pulling off their crime. The bystanders easily judged them to be Jewish girls and thus trustworthy. I guess we feel safe when around our own. However, by judging based on dress, we were fooled this time.
Should we be judging our safety (and countless other things) based on how someone dresses? Is the external presentation indicative of their honesty, integrity, and spirituality? We have far to go in our understanding of just what is accomplished by using חיצוניות as the yardstick to measure anything.
The arrested were two non-Jewish hispanic female minors.
Dress does say a lot about a person. Someone going around in torn jeans with a crew cut and a sleeveless shirt rightfully and 100% correctly will engender a different reaction and precautions than someone in a suit and tie.

We have to be careful. For the past several years, gypsy women, dressed modestly, have been panhandling on Purim. I chased one away by simply saying, “Shalom Aleichem!” They don’t speak the lashon.
