Rishon L’Tzion: Ramot Residents to Observe Purim on Shushan Purim

yyoRishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Yitzchak Yosef Shlita has released a psak halacha changing the status of Purim observance for residents of the Ramot neighborhood.

It is well known in the past that those who followed the ruling of Maran Rav Elyashiv ZT”L ZY”A and other Ashkenazim Torah giants observed Purim in Ramat on Shushan Purim, as is the custom throughout the capital. Followers of Maran Rav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L ZY”A kept Purim on the 14th, in line with most of the world.

This year, the Rishon Tzion has released a psak halacha ruling that this coming Purim, everyone in Ramot should observe Purim on Shushan Purim.

Following is the wording of Rav Yosef’s ruling:

  1. M,
To be fair, it’s not a change in psak, it’s a change in circumstances. The psak is the same psak that existed when Rav Ovadia Ztzl was alive.

  2. Yes. This is a case where people went out of there way to ensure that we don’t have something as extreme as some people in a neighborhood celebrating Purim one day while others celebrate on a different day. The askonim created facts on the ground which allowed everone to do the same thing. I have always wondered if anything could be done to make facts on tbe ground to resolve the differences of opinion on reshus harabbim in Brooklyn and allow everone to use the eruv.

  3. Baruch Hashem everything will be uniform now – in the spirit of Purim everything was a big mishmash and mess in Ramot previously with literally next door neighbors keeping different days of Purim. Rav Mordechai Eliyahu zt”l apparently said Ramot should do Sushan Purim and I asked one of his close talmidim and he told me that we should do Shushan Purim in Ramot, so even among the sefardi poskim it wasn’t a devar pashut. I’m looking forward to being able to take in Shabbat with all my drunk neighbors now 😉 Purim sameach!

  4. what gives him the right to reverse his father’s psak?

If houses connect eventually from Yerushalyim to Tel Aviv, will Tel Aviv keep purim on shushan purim?
