Petach Tikvah: Child Forgotten in a Vehicle on Heatwave Morning


cicA 2-year-old child was forgotten in a vehicle on Menachem Begin Street in Petach Tikvah on Wednesday morning 9 Sivan as the nation braces for a major sharav heatwave. When the family members returned to the vehicle they were shocked to see the toddler inside. Her mother removed her the vehicle and she ran her into her home and called EMS. Magen David Adom paramedics responded to the scene to check the toddler, who was in the car for about two hours.

B’chasdei Hashem the child was reportedly in light condition when paramedics transported her to Schneider Children’s Hospital. Police were informed of the incident and an investigation was launched.

MDA officials continue to warn parents that even if a car’s windows are left open, the temperature in a vehicle can quickly exceed 60 C (140 F) and this results in a life-threatening situation for a child.

Temperatures around Israel are soaring on Wednesday, expecting to reach 102 F in the capital and much hotter in other areas.

As summer approaches there is an ad campaign on radio reminding adults not to forget their children in a vehicle, urging them to take steps that will avoid disaster. Some of the steps include placing one’s handbag in the rear seat next to a car seat and/or buying a special key holder with a reminder band attached. Ads are being aired by government agencies and NGOs in the hope of increasing awareness as the hot weather moves in.

  1. A good strategy is being spread around: to remove one of your shoes and put it in the back seat next to your baby. Worth those few annoying seconds to take off and later retie/rebuckle the shoe!
    I also received a communication that there is a Kars4 Kids Safety App that you can download; it’s an alert mechanism.
