Rav Mazuz: It is Good that Marav HaRav Ovadia was Not Selected for New Monterey Note

ovaRosh Yeshivat Kisei Rachamim HaGaon HaRav Meir Mazuz Shlita on Monday, 25 Kislev, commented on the announced new monetary bills coming into circulation and that many are angry no Sephardim were chosen to appear on them.

During a weekly shiur given by the rav on Kol Berama Radio, the rav explained that today, officials are seeking a person, a respected personality to place on new bills. He explained to date, those selected were far from a Torah way of life, acknowledging that some may have a connection but by and large, persons who are not Torah observant have been selected.

Regarding audible calls to select someone from the Sephardi community, Rav Mazuz explained it is good that Maran HaGaon HaRav Ovadia Yosef ZT”L was not selected for he feels this would not represent honoring the late Gadol Hador’s name.

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon told Kol Berama’s Noam Zeigelman that he feels Sephardim are being discriminated against in the selection process for new personality for Israel’s new bills.
