Jerusalem Bus Stops Receiving Security Upgrade Used To Prevent Vehicular Attacks

ibsThe planned work on some 300 Jerusalem bus stops, to protect persons at those stops from vehicular ramming attacks, is underway. Steel columns are being installed in front of a stop, which will hopefully stop a vehicle should a driver decide to ty to perpetrate such an attack. These are the same pillars found at many light rail stations, which were also installed following a number of vehicular ramming attacks against commuters waiting for the light rail.

The Transportation Ministry is picking up the NIS 2 million tab, and the decision as to which stops will receive the pillars is being made by police. The experts will decide which bus stops are ‘high-risk’ and those receive priority, generally high volume bus stops such as those in the area of Binyanei Ha’uma and other extremely busy areas.
