Petition To High Court To Compel Opening Egalitarian Area By The Kosel

koselThe Reform Movement has submitted its petition to the High Court of Justice seeking to compel the implementation of the egalitarian prayer area by the Kosel. The prayer area was approved by the government. The petition addresses the lack of implementation of a cabinet decision.

In fact, the petition takes the matter a step further, unwilling to make do with the cabinet decision, seeking the High Court’s decision to rule on the need of a new section from the viewpoint of equality. This petitioners hope will overrule the chareidi veto of implanting the new egalitarian area, having a High Court stamp of approval.

Prior to Rosh Hashanah, Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit announced that he would not become involved in the matter, which he views as strictly political and not a legal issue.

MK Moshe Gafne responded to Mandelblit’s announcement, calling on him to become involved as in his viewpoint, he is compelled to do just that.
