Cleared for Publication: As a result of a joint operation between the Shin Bet, IDF and Israel Police, residents of the Galil Arab community of Ajar were taken into custody in September on suspicion of being involved in an explosives smuggling operation operating in Metula during this past July. A farmer discovered two explosive devices in an open field in the Metula area, on Route 90. After authorities were notified it led to the investigation and arrests.

The first three suspects were taken into custody on 1 Elul; Adel Awanat (29), Muchsan Kahmuz (21), and Diav KAhmuz (31). As a result of their interrogation, four additional arrests were made; Mamduah Ibrahim (21), Jamal Kahmuz (29), Yousef Kahmuz (34), and Mahar Harbuai (29).

The suspects allegedly smuggled items via a border crossing to Lebanon and have been spying on behalf of Hizbullah. Indictments were handed down against the suspects in the Northern District on Thursday, 4 Tishrei. Charges include assisting the enemy in wartime, manufacture and importation of weapons without a license, passing intelligence information, contact with an enemy agent and dealing in drugs.
