‘Tzav 1’ Leaders Meet With IDF Chief Rabbi In Secret

captureThe heads of the ‘Tzav 1’ organization which deals with complaints from religious IDF soldiers, met in secret with IDF Chief Rabbi Brigadier-General Rabbi Rafi Peretz and his intended replacement, Lt.-Colonel Rabbi Eyal Karim. The Military Rabbinate prefers to keep the meeting out of the media spotlight amid tensions in the IDF pertaining to religious soldiers as well as the IDF Rabbinate.

Amid growing reports of soldiers being compelled to shave their beards, addressing issues of kol isha, having difficulty getting home in time for Shabbos, the ‘Tzav 1’ organization was formed to come to the assistance of the religious soldiers.

Representing Tzav 1 at the meeting was Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu (son of Tzfat Chief Sephardi Rav Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu Shlita). Tzav 1 has confirmed a meeting did take place but would not reveal the contents of the discussion.

  1. Why is this described in terms of a conspiracy as a “secret” meeting. I am sure the IDF Chief Rabbi meets every day with many people but does not publicize all those meetings. This story would be better in the National Inquirer than on YWN.
