Dina Rivkin, 4.5 years old, was born with Esophageal atresia, a birth defect which affects the alimentary tract. It causes the esophagus to connect to the lungs rather than connecting normally to the stomach.

After birth, Dina underwent a complicated surgery and spent a month in hospital.

During her first months of life, Dina failed to eat and would vomit everything. At the age of 10 months, it was decided to feed her via her stomach. Complications lead to another surgery, and to a life-threatening stay at the intensive care unit.

Till the age of 18 months, Dina was fed via her stomach. About six months ago, the Schneider Hospital decided to feed her via a nasogastric feeding tube. She has never eaten on her own.

Her doctors are recommending she undergo an urgent fundoplication surgery. This highly specialized operation requires know-how and experience. They recommended that Dina be sent to the Boston Children’s Hospital, where Dina can recover her abilities to eat, grow and develop like any normal little girl.
