Jerusalem Sephardi Chief Rabbi Amar Lashes Out At The Toeiva Community

amarJerusalem Chief Sephardi Rabbis is under fire for daring to speak out against the toeiva community. Rav Amar rejects those who opine gays are not in control of their feels, insisting they too can control their yetzer as we are all compelled to do daily in many areas.

Rav Amar is interviewed in the weekend edition of Yisrael Hayom, calling them “a toeiva cult” and “evil”, rejecting any attempt to legitimize their lifestyle. He adds there is no room for compromise and there is no room to attempt to legitimize this unacceptable lifestyle which the Torah clearly prohibits.

Speaking about the Reform Movement, the rav stated there are no many reform Jews in Israel but it has been growing “as they import this culture”. Rav Amar explains that while it is his norm to speak kindly of others, in the case of toeiva and Reform Jewry, there is no place for kind words and one must speak out harshly in line with the Torah and halacha.

Needless to say, the rav is now under fire from the Israeli toeiva community, members of Knesset and many public officials.

Machane Tzioni party MK Merav Michaeli, who heads the toeiva lobby in Knesset, has sent a letter to Minister of Religious Services (Shas) David Azoulai and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu demanding that Rav Amar be dismissed from his public position as a chief rabbi of the capital.

  1. Which toeyva is he referring to? Does he mean the people that are dishonest in bussiness which the Torah refers to as toeyva? Is he refering to people that cheat and steal which the Torah states was the cause of the mabul?

  2. Why would they call for his dismissal? He is a rabbi and is expounding the Torah view. They don’t need to like the Torah view, but it is around. What do they want a rabbi to do – explain the atheistic view??

  3. #1, last I heard there was no dishonest in business, steal and cheat lobby in E. Israel, just a few unfortunate individuals who call themselves frum who are dishonest and steal and cheat and an equal number of unfortunate individuals who are not so frum and justify there not so frum actions by darshening about those individuals who steal, cheat, etc…

  4. No, crazykanoiy, the Rav is referring to the prohibition of homosexuality toeyva, which is also against Torah.
It is possible to overcome it, just like any other sin. with willpower, so don’t underestimate the severity of it, please don’t mislead people.
People please overcome toeyva! With willpower!

  5. Great question crazyk

    Here’s the answer.

Toieva with regard to illicit intimate relationships that disturbs the rav and most others is they’re severe lack of busha. They openly flaunt, parade, to promote their agenda.

Huge difference with regard to cheating in business. People aren’t so brazen as to parade their righteousness about their right to steal, be dishonest in business, etc.

Lack of any busha is the difference maker. Obviously both are grievous sins.

  6. Looks like crazy kanoi has an agenda obviously both are wrong however when is the last time you saw a bunch of dishonest people parade their “principles ” of y stealing is ok and that it is not their fault they are compelled and it is their nature so y don’t you grow up and stop trying to befuddle issues
