Tens of Haifa University students on Monday blocked the Jerusalem � Tel Aviv Highway for a short period of time in protest over the deteriorating situation regarding the nation�s institutions of higher learning.

Yaniv Ben-Shoshan, who heads the university�s student union, warned he will not permit the opening of the scholastic year next week as scheduled. �We are of one mind with the heads of the universities� he added. �We will not permit the opening of schools until the funds promised [by the government] are transferred.

Students accuse the national government of not abiding by agreements. Ben-Shoshan stated the ministers simply do not care.
