There are calls to appoint High Court justices to fill the void, with home explaining that by not doing so, petitions to the nation’s highest court may be delayed several months with the nation now engulfed in election preparations.
Supreme Court President Justice Dorit Beinish sent a letter to Justice Minister Daniel Friedman, informing him she will continue preventing the appointment of new justices to the High Court until after elections. She feels that such a move is not appropriate during the tenure of a transition government.
Friedman and others disagree, feeling the appointment of justices should not be delayed. Attorney General Menachem Mazuz issued a ruling that the transition government may indeed appoint justices to the High Court.
