Duma Prisoner Is Compelled To Be Mechalel Shabbos

1Ben Uliel, a suspect in the Duma arson which killed members of a family in the PA (Palestinian Authority) village remains incarcerated in HaSharon Prison without bail pending the outcome of his trial.

He has been moved and the current arrangements are unacceptable according to Honenu attorney Adi Kedar. His cell mate is now a non-religious person and there is a TV, making his adherence to a frum life impossible. Kedar calls on prison officials to return him to his previous arrangement.

He is in a separate wing in which there are two to a cell around the clock. Having a non-religious person Kedar explains eliminates his client’s right to his religious freedom, especially Shabbos.

  1. I fail to understand the chilul shabbos involved. So there is a TV on. Who is compelling him to watch? Perhaps it isn’t comfortable; it is a nuisance. But so is a colicky baby. We don’t separate the baby from its parents because it is disturbing their Oneg Shabbos. If he is innocent of the crime, then this is a test from Above for him. If he is guilty, well these are the breaks.

  2. Strange posts here. Don’t see the problem with TV? Well, a really “frum” person (not that I am saying the suspect is that frum as I would not know) does not watch any TV, and certainly not the kind of things shown and said on secular TV, on any day of week. On Shabbas there are additional problems, as those who do not listen to musical instruments as Rabbinically prohibited are well within their rights to claim that TV is one accepted method of producing music and as such falls under the prohibition. Spending Shabbas with ear-plugs to not hear and blind-folded to not see is not only torture any time anyway, certainly violates Oneg Shabbos.

  3. It’s a disgrace that you accuse him of murder!
    A. He admitted it after torture, is there anyone here who would not admit it after torture?? someone???
    B. The testimonies of the Arabs contradict his confessions of murder!!
    C. He is not yet definitely guilty, but only accused of murder that forced him to admit that he committed!! So there is no permission for anyone to write this way about him!
    D. Since he is known to have confessed to murder following torture, this means that his confessions are legally inadmissible because they were not given free will! So how can you blame such a person for murder???
    E. You got to understand what happened: The former defense minister, Moshe Ya’alon, claimed that we know who the murderers are, but there is no evidence. Then this ‘knowledge’ became only a suspicion…
    F. Another horror: When the lawyers of the tortured told about the torture, while the GSS lied to Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, that there is no torture and they are allowed to put on tefillin, Bennett said: Who do you believe: Attorney Ben Gvir, or Ayelet Shaked, Justice Minister of the State of Israel?
Indeed, it became clear that there were torture and were not given the rights they deserve…. Recently published protocols proving that there were torture!!!
So get up and shout our scream! A terrible injustice has been done to Amiram ben Uliel and to the second defendant! Pray for them!
