YW regrets to inform you of the passing yesterday of Rav Yisroel Shurin Z”L. He was a son-in-law of Hagoen Rav Yackov Kaminetzky ZATZAL, was a Rov in Brooklyn, and then moved to Eretz Yisroel. Most Yeshivah students who have read Oleminu knew of Rav Shurin. (It’s interesting to note, that today is the Yartzheit of Hagoen Rav Yackov ZATZAL.) Boruch Dayan Emmes….

Rav Yisroel Shurin ztl is also the father of Rav Yitzchak Shurin who is currently the Rosh Midrasha of Midreshet Rachel v’Chaya in Yerushalayim – which is the women’s school of Darche Noam Institutions of Yerushalyaim.
The men’s school is usually known as Shapell’s.
Rav Shurin, zt”l, learned with Rav Yoshe Ber Soloveitchik at the Heichal Rabbeinu Chaim Halevi in Boston in the 1930s.
