Are you a teenage girl who enjoys writing?
If so, we have great news for you!

Torah Temimah Publications, the newest Jewish publishing house, is producing an anthology written just by teens! With the intent of providing teenage girls worldwide with the unique opportunity to develop their writing talents and gain exposure, TTP has launched a writing contest whose winners will have their stories published in TTP’s new book.
Students in grades 8-12 can submit a short fiction or non-fiction story to the publisher for review. Winning authors will receive a cash prize and their entries will be published in the anthology.
The idea of the contest is to allow teens with writing talent to have a forum for developing their talents and gaining exposure, possibly leading to a future career in writing.
“We need more excellent frum writers out there,” explains Rabbi Eliyahu Miller, publisher and general editor of Torah Temimah Publications. “Contests of this type show young potential writers that developing their abilities is a worthwhile endeavor.”

English teachers too are pleased for this opportunity to motivate their students to hone their writing skills outside of the classroom setting. One Bais Yaakov teacher who saw the advertisement in Mishpacha wrote to TTP, “I would like to share it with my students as it sounds like a very inspiring opportunity for them.”
Mrs. Chaya Sara Ben-Shachar, a published author herself, is the director of the contest. She explains the thought process that led her to initiate a writing project geared to teens. “When I was in high school, I found that the stage was always being given to those girls who could act, sing or dance. Girls with talents in other areas had fewer places to shine. This book is the “stage” for girls with writing talent to get their first real exposure.”

Rabbi Miller, a former avreich whose vision of conveying the Torah that he imbibed in yeshivah to the public led him to found TTP, maintains that such an anthology will be appreciated by more than just adolescents. “I expect the book to fascinate adults as much as the teens themselves. I’ve already seen some excellent stories; I wouldn’t have guessed they were written by teens.”
Mrs. Ben-Shachar agrees: “Children will be encouraged to write well since this book will show them where good writing can take them. Adults will also get a candid view of what’s going on in the mindset of a teen by reading literature that was written by the teens themselves.”

Interested?

Here’s what you need to do: Write a 3000-5000 word fiction or non-fiction story based on one of the following themes: an adventure, a challenge or a momentous occasion. Multiple submissions are welcome.

The deadline for all submissions is Sunday, December 30, 2012. That’s in just a few weeks, so don’t delay!
