The rav was questioned on Wednesday, 3 Menachem Av 5773 for eight hours, after which he was released with restrictions. The rav allegedly abused his position as the citys chief rabbi to advance the interests of Badatz Beit Yosef.
Rabbi Yosef is the Shas party candidate in the Chief Rabbinate race. He is a contender to become Israels next Sephardi Chief Rabbi.
