De Blasio Family Moving to Gracie Mansion

deb[By Bill, Chirlane, Chiara, and Dante DeBlasio]

One of the most important decisions a family makes is about where to live.

Over the past few weeks, weve talked about whether we should move from our house in Park Slope, Brooklyn to Gracie Mansion in Manhattan.

Its a tough decision. Brooklyn is our home and Park Slope is our neighborhood. And we love these places. In many ways, theyve come to define who we are.

No matter where we live while Bill is Mayor, this wont change.

For a variety of reasons, like logistical and security concerns, weve decided to move to Gracie Mansion. Its a practical choice but one that we make with respect and gratitude for the people of New York City.

While this is a temporary move for us, it is one that we are very proud to make. Its also one that we will phase in over the next few months.

Even while we move to Gracie Mansion for a spell, well be keeping our home in Brooklyn and stopping by our favorite spots like The Purity Diner and Bar Toto as often as we can. And dont bet against seeing us at the Park Slope YMCA occasionally.

Well miss Brooklyn, but we are incredibly gratified to the people of New York for the opportunity to live in the Mayors residence. It is an honor we accept with thanks.

For generations of New Yorkers, Gracie Mansion has been the home of the citys Mayors and their families. It is a place where we celebrate the city and its people, a place where history doesnt just reside, but is experienced by our fellow citizens.

We are humbled to join that great tradition.

After all, a home is more than just bricks and mortar its the place you are with the people you love.

We are thankful for the trust New Yorkers have put in Bill as their Mayor.

It is a tremendous honor. Our family looks forward to serving the public while also building new memories together and sharing the experience with New Yorkers.

Thanks, and Seasons Greetings to our fellow residents of the greatest city on earth.
