Let This Be the Year

Yom Kippur Eve, 5780. David and Ellen K sit silently at the meal before the onset of the fast. Neither needs to communicate what is on their minds: the seven-year-long emptiness of their home and their hearts. They know that their neighbors will come to shul armed with snacks and books to keep their children occupied. Not the Ks – they will come with machzorim and broken hearts. They hope and daven that next year will be different.

At PUAH we know. The Ks have been part of our lives for a while; they are  part of the PUAH family.

Fast-forward to erev Yom Kippur 5782: Ellen lovingly holds a squirming little Baruch while a radiant David places his hands tenderly on their baby’s soft brown hair. David’s tears run freely, but they are tears of joy and humble gratitude. At that moment, he intuitively knows he must share the blessings and spread the love, to give other couples the dream they have been yearning for.

If you have been blessed with children, even if you never experienced the pain, you know the feeling too.
