In an interview with Fox News on Sunday afternoon, Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu revealed that the IDF has successfully eliminated two senior Iranian military officials in Tehran: Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence chief Brigadier General Mohammad Kazemi and his deputy, General Hassan Mohaqiq.
Speaking to anchor Bret Baier, Netanyahu said, “Moments ago, I can tell you we got their chief intelligence officer and his deputy in Tehran.”
A Reuters report, citing two US officials, said that President Trump vetoed an Israeli plan to assassinate Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei over the weekend.
When questioned about the Reuters report during his Fox News interview, Netanyahu dismissed it outright. “There are so many false reports about conversations that never happened — I’m not going to get into it,” he said, refusing to engage with the speculation.
National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi echoed Netanyahu, calling the report “fake news of the highest order.”
In the interview, Netanyahu was adamant that the intelligence was “absolutely clear” that Iran was on the verge of obtaining a nuclear weapon. Netanyahu brushed off questions about US director of national intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s statements in March that Iran hasn’t been pursuing a nuke.
“The intel we got and we shared with the United States was absolutely clear — was absolutely clear, that they were working in a secret plan to weaponize the uranium,” Netanyahu said.
“They were marching very quickly. They would achieve a test device and possibly an initial device within months, and certainly less than a year.”
The PM declared that the Jewish people won’t have a “second Holocaust” and defended the preemptive strikes against Iran last week as an important preventative measure.
