American far-right commentator Candace Owens ignited international uproar Saturday after posting a sweeping, unverified allegation on X accusing French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron of ordering an assassination plot against her — and claiming an Israeli operative was part of the team allegedly sent to kill her.
In a message marked “URGENT,” Owens asserted that she was contacted by someone she described as a “high-ranking employee of the French Government.” She claimed the individual warned her that the Macrons had “executed upon and paid for my assassination,” saying a “green light was given” to members of the GIGN, France’s elite counterterrorism unit, with “one Israeli” involved in the supposed team.
Owens did not publish evidence to support the claims. She wrote that the source provided “concrete proof,” but she did not share any documents, audio recordings, or other verifiable material.
As of publication, no French, Israeli, or U.S. authority has confirmed any such plot, and Owens’s claims have not been corroborated by any reputable news or investigative outlet. The Élysée Palace, the French Interior Ministry, Israel’s government, U.S. officials, and the National Gendarmerie have not issued public comment in response.
Owens further tied the alleged plot to the assassination of her former Turning Point USA colleague, Charlie Kirk, who was killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. She claimed Kirk’s killer “trained with the French legion 13th brigade,” echoing conspiracy theories she has promoted for weeks without evidence. She also claimed that a French journalist who has investigated Brigitte Macron was now “in danger.”
Owens’s claims come as she faces a 22-count defamation lawsuit filed in July by Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron in Delaware. The suit accuses Owens of knowingly pushing false conspiracy content to grow her media brand — especially her repeated claim that Brigitte Macron was secretly born male. France’s First Lady has presented official records to disprove the rumor.
Owens has responded by portraying the lawsuit as a battle for free speech and has leaned into a branded campaign called “Becoming Brigitte.”
