Federal Judge Orders the Immediate Release of Kilmar Abrego-Garcia

A federal judge ordered the immediate release of Kilmar Abrego-Garcia, ruling he had been detained “without lawful authority.” Judge Paula Xinis said the absence of a removal order prevents the government from detaining him.

Earlier this month, the government asked Judge Xinis to dissolve a ban on removing him to Liberia, saying it received assurances he would not be persecuted or tortured there.
