Israel Police on Monday declared Yisrael Einhorn, a former adviser to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, as a “fugitive criminal” for his suspected role in the Bild classified documents leak case.
Einhorn lives in Serbia. The police previously issued an arrest warrant against him for his alleged role in the case.
The police declaration was made at a hearing at the Rishon L’Tzion Magistrate’s Court, during which the police requested an extension on the restrictive conditions imposed on Yonatan Urich, another suspect in the case, including a ban on contact with Einhorn and his Perceptions consulting firm, a ban on leaving the country, and a ban on contact with Netanyahu.
The police request to the court stated, “Investigative materials clearly show that the ‘Perception’ company is under Einhorn’s exclusive ownership and management. Einhorn is a suspect in the case and was questioned under warning (while abroad) through judicial inquiry for alleged security, and an arrest warrant has been issued against him. Despite this, he has avoided returning to the country and is a fugitive criminal.”
The developments in the case come a day after Tzachi Braverman, Netanyahu’s chief of staff, was arrested for alleged involvement in the case and was interrogated for 13 hours.
On Monday, Braverman and Omar Mantzur, a spokesperson in the Prime Minister’s Office who was also investigated by the police on suspicion of obstructing justice, appealed the restrictive conditions imposed upon their release.
A hearing on their appeals is scheduled for Wednesday.
