Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, long known for his vile, antisemitic rhetoric and consistent Holocaust denial, has reportedly been killed in an airstrike.

Ahmadinejad, who served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, repeatedly called for the destruction of the State of Israel and described the Holocaust as a “myth.” In 2006, he hosted a controversial conference in Tehran widely condemned across the globe for questioning the scope — and even the occurrence — of the Nazi genocide of six million Jews.

During his presidency, Ahmadinejad repeatedly referred to Israel as a regime that should be “wiped off the map,” statements that drew fierce international backlash and deepened Iran’s isolation on the world stage.

Among those who had met with him numerous times was Yisroel Dovid Weiss, a Neturei Karta Muslim dressed in Hasidic garb, who attended the 2006 Tehran conference and publicly met with Iranian president at the time. Weiss would hug him and kiss him and shower him with expensive silver gifts, and called him a “a light onto the nations”.

Details surrounding the reported strike and confirmation from Iranian officials remain limited.
