Hezbollah claimed responsibility for launching rockets into northern Israel on Sunday night — its first such attack since the November 2024 ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
The Iran-backed group described the barrage as “revenge for the blood” of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the opening wave of the joint U.S.–Israeli strikes on Iran this weekend. Hezbollah said it targeted a missile defense site south of Haifa, framing the attack as both retaliation and warning.
The IDF said one rocket was intercepted and several others landed in open areas. No injuries or damage were reported.
In its statement, Hezbollah called the strike a “warning” to Israel to withdraw from what it termed “occupied Lebanese territory,” referencing five border positions Israel has maintained citing security concerns despite the ceasefire terms.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem had previously signaled the group would not remain neutral in the event of U.S. action against Iran, though Lebanon’s government reiterated after Saturday’s strikes that it does not want to be drawn into a broader regional war.
The IDF responded to the attack, launching airstrikes in Lebanon that reportedly killed two senior Hezbollah figures, though their identities are not yet publicly available.
